Fuego!

For anyone that has been to the polo fields in Maple Plains, Minnesota, I am sad to report that a landmark is now gone.

I remember my first time playing Ultimate in Maple Plains, I was in awe of the massive homes that surrounded the area. I think everyone's initial reaction is the same; you start with the closest house to the fields and say "Wow, that house is massive!" and then repeat yourself several times as you continue looking at all the other houses in view of the field.

The house closest to the polo fields caught fire on the weekend of the Minnesota Ultimate Disc Invitation tournament '08. The house started smoldering in the middle of a point of a 13-13 quarterfinal game between Winnipeg's General Strike and Minnesota's Paul Bunyan's Revenge. Although the game was intense as Winnipeg was trying to complete a comeback after being down 3-8, the fire reminded us all that Ultimate is just a game. It's just a game.
